Mike Pompeo responds to his visit to Georgia on Twitter

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has responded to his visit to Georgia on Twitter.

“I had productive conversations with my counterparts, and am confident that our strong, dynamic bilateral relationship is firmly grounded in our shared values and commitment to Georgia’s territorial integrity”, he tweeted.

According to him, he enjoyed a candid conversation on judicial reform and democratic progress with members of Georgia’s vibrant civil society. “Georgia has made progress fighting corruption, developing modern state institutions, and enhancing security”.

“It was my great pleasure to meet with His Holiness, Georgian Orthodox Church Patriarch Ilia II today. As a member of the International Religious Freedom Alliance, Georgia’s role in promoting and protecting religious freedom around the world cannot be overstated.”

He said it was great to meet with Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani to discuss the importance of holding free, fair, and transparent elections in Georgia. “I reaffirmed unwavering U.S. support for Georgia’s sovereignty in the face of Russian occupation.”

He also responded to his meeting with President Zourabichvili. “U.S. cooperation with Georgia is of paramount importance, and our support for Georgia’s sovereignty in the face of Russian occupation is unwavering”, he tweeted.
