Archil Talakvadze: Positions on the issue of electoral reform are so close that we may see another opposition political party in the parliament

Positions on the issue of electoral reform are so close that I think it may become the subject of an agreement and end with a positive result, meaning that we may see another opposition political party in the parliament, - Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze said after talks with the leaders of the Citizens Party.

According to him, the government wants the people's choice to be fully reflected in the parliament. Therefore, the Speaker expressed hope that the agreement will be achieved and that the space of the agreement will be open to other political parties as well.

"First of all, I must say that we fully support dialogue between the political parties and we want the people's choice to be fully reflected in the parliament. To this end, today we had a meeting with representatives of the Citizens party and most importantly, the positions on the issue of electoral reform are so close that I think it might become the subject of an agreement and end with a positive result, meaning that we may see another opposition political party in the parliament. We will, of course, continue to work on the details. The main thing is that within the framework of these talks we have reaffirmed that the next stage of the electoral reform has our full support," Talakvadze said.

According to him, the issue of lowering the threshold for the 2024 parliamentary elections will be considered, as well as the introduction of technologies and other regulations in the election process.
