Archil Talakvadze: The document signed by us and the "Citizens" is open to other parties too - we continue the dialogue and expect that the participation of the opposition in parliament will expand

We expect that the participation of the opposition in the parliament will be further expanded, - the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Archil Talakvadze told journalists in response to the decision of party "Citizens" to enter the parliament.

According to Archil Talakvadze, the political dialogue with the opposition parties will continue.

"As you know, we, as the ruling Georgian Dream political party, have stated as part of political dialogue that we take political responsibility for the next stage of electoral reform in the Georgian Parliament. We will meet the local elections in the fall of 2021 with improved legislation.

We started negotiations with all the opposition parties with the support of the ambassadors, and we also had negotiations with the "Citizens" party, which ended today with a positive result. We have created a document where our condition and responsibility is to implement the next stage of the electoral reform in the Parliament of Georgia, taking into account the OSCE / ODIHR recommendations.

We signed this document with the party "Citizens". This document is also open to representatives of other political parties, those who have received a mandate. We will continue the political dialogue and negotiations with the political parties and expect that participation of the opposition in the parliament will be further expanded.

This is the second opposition party to be represented in parliament, and as for the part of the agreement that needs a constitutional majority, we will continue our efforts to get at least as many representatives from the opposition as possible to implement these changes", - Talakvadze said.

For information, Aleko Elisashvili, the leader of the Citizens party, says that an agreement has been reached with the Georgian Dream and he will enter the parliament together with Levan Ioseliani.
