Shalva Natelashvili leaves EU-mediated meeting between Georgian Dream and opposition in protest

Shalva Natelashvili, the leader of the Labor Party, left the meeting between the leaders of the Georgian Dream and the opposition, mediated by Christian Danielsson, Special Envoy of Council of Europe President Charles Michel, in protest.

As he told reporters, the reason for leaving the session was the issues on the agenda. According to him, the meeting started with the issue of opposition MPs’s parliamentary mandates, and judicial and electoral reforms again.

“The Labor Party is leaving the negotiation format where the date of the new parliamentary elections is not the first issue, where the release of political prisoners is not the first issue, and where illegally arrested Nika Melia is not sitting at the negotiating table. I will return to the negotiating table and consultations as soon as these two issues are resolved. I have said many times that building a house starts from the foundation and not from the roof. when we start discussing electoral, judicial reforms and other problems, and when it is demanded in advance that opposition MPs should enter the parliament - it means that the process is falling apart, it means that the Russian oligarch remains the master of the country and therefore it means that the opposition failed to fulfill its mission for the Georgian people, for the present and future of the country," Natelashvili said.

The meeting between the opposition and the ruling team continues at the moment.

The meeting started at 16:00 in the EU Representation Office and is being mediated by Christian Danielson, Special Envoy of the President of the European Council Charles Michel.
