Salome Zurabishvili: The main message of the United States is that our partnership continues - US and EU need a more stable and democratic Georgia

The main message of the United States is that our partnership continues, Georgia continues on the Euro-Atlantic path, - reads the statement by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, in which she responds to the hearing on Georgia in the US Senate.

"Yesterday's hearing in the US Senate is another proof of how important it is for our main strategic partner to have relations with Georgia and to promote the strengthening of democratic institutions in Georgia.

Despite certain remarks made by senators and State Department officials, the main message from the United States is that our partnership continues, Georgia continues on the Euro-Atlantic path, and the United States supports Georgia in implementing the democratic reforms needed to achieve this goal.

It is very important that the United States and the European Union stand by Georgia and support us in overcoming the current political crisis. The United States and the European Union fully share the report of the OSCE, according to which the parliamentary elections in Georgia in 2020 were held in a competitive environment, with fundamental rights being protected.

The United States and the European Union need a more stable and democratic Georgia as a strong and reliable partner in a challenging region.

I again call on all parties to give priority to the country and not to narrow political interests. Prolonging the current crisis is favorable only for the unfriendly forces. The country needs stability, which we can achieve only by strengthening state institutions and carrying out new democratic reforms", - said Salome Zurabishvili.
