Zura Japaridze on negotiations: I have no reason to be particularly optimistic, nor do I have reason to say that nothing will be achieved

Zura Japaridze, the leader of the Girchi-More Freedom party, believes that turning the negotiation process around and reaching an agreement "depends on the position of our friends, who are now mediators."

According to him, if the document that Danielsson is to present to the parties today will touch upon the release of political prisoners and the ways to reach new elections, the opposition will accept these proposals.

"I expect anything, I have no reason to be particularly optimistic, nor do I have reason to say that nothing will be achieved. I'm more skeptical to tell you the truth, but I do not know, today is a different day from all other negotiation days. Today the mediator will make his own proposals for the first time. There has never been such a thing before and what we were told yesterday that either we will agree to these proposals, or we will not agree, it depends on the proposals. In my opinion, what can turn around the negotiation process and lead us to an agreement depends on the position of our friends who are mediators today, and this position should not be a general call for responsibility on both sides and compromises on both sides, because I do not think I that I'm responsible for the fact that the "Dream" has been in power for 8 years and the judiciary is not independent, it is politicized, the elections are not held properly, etc.

All the points left by Charles Michel reflect the current state of the country. I understand the compromise on technical issues, but there can be no compromise on whether the judiciary will be independent or not, whether the elections will be held properly or not. Let's see what points will be included - whether there will be the release of political prisoners, the way to the new elections, it is important for me to change the electoral system, to lower the threshold, then I think the opposition will agree to that", - Japaridze said.
