EU-brokered document signed by Georgian Dream and opposition parties except for National Movement and European Georgia

An agreement has been reached between the government and some of the opposition parties. The document “A way ahead of Georgia” brokered by European Council President Charles Michel was signed a few minutes ago at the Orbeliani Palace.

In particular, the text of the agreement was signed by Giorgi Vashadze, Chairman of the Strategy Builder, Badri Japaridze and Mamuka Khazaradze, leaders of Lelo, Khatuna Samnidze, Chairperson of the Republican Party, Vakhtang Megrelishvili, one of the leaders of Girchi, and Aleko Esisashvili, leader of Citizens. In addition, the document was individually signed by Salome Samadashvili, one of the leaders of the United National Movement, Davit Bakradze, independent MP, and Zurab Japaridze, Chairman of Girchi - More Freedom.

The document has not been joined by the United National Movement and European Georgia at this stage, therefore, the text of the agreement does not have their signatures.

Charles Michel's document also enjoys the consent of the Georgian Dream. The text was signed by Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze and one of the leaders of the majority Shalva Papuashvili on behalf of the ruling team.

European Council President Charles Michel made a new proposal to the Georgian Dream and the opposition yesterday. According to the mediators' document, the persons assessed as political prisoners should be released within a week after the signing of the agreement between the government and the opposition. In addition, according to Charles Michel, early elections in Georgia should be called in 2022 if the Georgian Dream gets less than 43% of votes in the local elections.
