No one will give you the right to take away democracy in the country, no one will give you the right to use violence. Western partners are on the side of journalists and no one will allow you to hand justice over to the clan," Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of Strategy Builder, said at a briefing in parliament.
He said that they have intensive communication with Charles Michel's office and that the fact that the European Commission is talking about sanctions does not happen by chance. According to him, they will talk to Charles Michel, who will arrive in Georgia, about the violation of the agreement by the Georgian Dream and the violence against journalists.
"The mechanism for implementing the Charles Michel Agreement has been launched. Both American and European partners speak directly about sanctions that will be imposed on the Georgian government for violating the agreement. Two important issues for which sanctions are being considered: the first is the handover of the judiciary to the clan and the appointment of Supreme Court judges, and the second, most important issue is the mass violence against journalists. The EU is directly talking about suspending macro-financial assistance if justice is not improved in Georgia, and the US State Department, for the first time in Georgia's history of independence, says that if the Georgian Dream continues to use violence against journalists, citizens and opponents, it will start imposing personal sanctions. However, they tell us that the sanctions will not be announced in advance," - said Vashadze.
