The Investigation Department of the State Inspector's Service is investigating the murder of a prisoner and intentional grievous bodily harm during a confrontation between prisoners at the Rustavi 17th Penitentiary facility.

As InterpressNews was informed by the Investigative Department of the State Inspector's Service, on July 26, 2021, on the basis of a notification received from the Special Penitentiary Service, the Investigative Department of the State Inspector's Service immediately launched an investigation into a criminal case of a murder of a prisoner, intentional grievous bodily harm and a violation of the rules established by a special penitentiary officer during a quarrel between inmates at the N17 penitentiary institution, which resulted in a loss of human life. The investigation is being carried out under Article 108, the first part of Article 117 and the second part of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
