Megis Kardava used all legal means on the territory of Ukraine to avoid his extradition to Georgia, however, the relevant Ukrainian authorities did not share the arguments made by the wanted person and granted the request of the Prosecutor General's Office for extradition, the Georgian Prosecutor's Office said.

According to the agency, justice in relation to M.K. will be enforced in accordance with the legislation of Georgia.

"The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia filed a motion with the Ukrainian side on the extradition of M.K. on April 10, 2017, and additional motions were submitted to Ukrainian counterparts on November 9 and December 9 of the same year. Based on the materials submitted by the Georgian side, on November 1, 2017, the wanted person was detained by the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and extradition proceedings were initiated against him.

During the extradition procedures, M.K. argued that in the event of extradition to Georgia, he would be subject to political persecution and that there were risks of his rights being violated. For this purpose, the wanted person used all legal means on the territory of Ukraine to avoid his extradition to Georgia, however, based on the substantiated materials submitted by the Prosecutor General's Office, the relevant Ukrainian authorities did not share the arguments of the wanted person and granted the request of the Prosecutor General's Office. As a result, justice will be served in relation to M.K. in accordance with the legislation of Georgia", - the statement reads.
