200 citizens safely evacuated from Omalo

According to the decision of the Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri, the special measures for the safe evacuation of citizens from Omalo by the Border Police helicopters of the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been completed.

According to the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, due to the large number of citizens wishing to be transferred from Omalo and its surrounding villages to Telavi, the operation in Tusheti was ongoing for two days.

"Two days ago, due to heavy rains, the Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road was damaged. In order to bring Georgian and foreign citizens from Omalo and its surrounding villages to Telavi, the employees of the Fire and Rescue Department have been involved in the process since yesterday morning with the help of Border Police helicopters. As a result of the flights carried out by two helicopters, a total of more than 200 people, including tourists and minors, were safely transported from Tusheti to Telavi,” reads the statement.
