Parliament adopts amendments to Organic Law on Common Courts

The Parliament approved amendments to the Organic Law on Common Courts. The bill was passed in the third reading by 81 votes to 7.

The draft law reduces the quorum required for decision-making on disciplinary matters relating to judges by the High Council of Justice - henceforth the relevant decisions will be taken by a majority of the full membership instead of 2/3 of the full membership. At the same time, the deadlines related to disciplinary proceedings are reduced and halved at all stages.

In addition, the maximum period of sending judges to other courts is increased from one to two years, both with the consent of judges and without consent.

The same changes introduce disciplinary sanctions against judges, such as sending to a relevant institution for advanced training.

Amendments to the Organic Law on Common Courts abolish the prohibition that the same person may not be elected to the High Council of Justice twice in a row.

At the same time, the draft law was edited during the discussion process relating to three issues.
