Outdoor trading in the vicinity of Varketili metro station to be banned

Outdoor trade in the vicinity of Varketili metro station will be banned. Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated about it at the meeting of the municipal government.

As Kaladze noted, traders should move to specially designated trading areas.

"A lot of calls and messages were received in this regard. The case concerns the area in the vicinity of Varketili metro station and it is a problem for pedestrians. In particular, it concerns traders who have taken sidewalks which is a problem for pedestrians to move around. There are trade spaces nearby and I would like to instruct the governor of Samgori district to negotiate with the management of these spaces and the people who are engaged in trade and economic activities today, to move to the appropriate spaces. I would also like to instruct my deputy, Irakli Bendeliani, to improve the area around the Varketili metro station, in particular, pavements, protective dams, crossings and proper green zones. All this is very important. Start communicating with the traders from today, give them a reasonable period of time, help them to communicate with the management of the trade spaces, so that they can continue their economic activities in the spaces allocated for this purpose," Kaladze said.
