As a result of the termination of the parliamentary mandate for Badri Japaridze, the party Lelo loses budget funding. At the same time, the parliamentary faction Lelo - Partnership for Georgia may be dissolved, because the faction is represented by a minimum number and if Japaridze is not replaced by any MP, the faction will be declared abolished.
Amendments made by the Parliament to the Law on Political Associations of Citizens on June 22 last year came into force on February 1. According to amendments, the party loses funding from the state budget if half or more than half of the members of parliament elected from the party have their mandates terminated and the powers of their substitutes cannot be recognized. In case of the mentioned circumstances, the funding of the party from the state budget should be stopped from the first day of the following calendar month.
Four MPs entered the parliament from the Lelo party list, two of whom - Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze - lost their mandates.
The Labor Party, whose leader Shalva Natelashvili had his powers terminated by a parliamentary decision, is also losing budget funding on a similar basis.
The Central Election Commission has already appealed to the Parliament to inform the CEC about the facts of loss of funding by the parties under the new law, in order to ensure that they implement the measures prescribed by law.
For reference, according to the decree of the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of August 5, 2021, the annual funding of Lelo is 803,560.00 GEL, and the funding of the Labor Party is 289,710.00 GEL.
