According to Transparency International Georgia's report on Georgia's economic dependence on Russia, there are more than 7,000 companies registered in Georgia, all or part of the shares of which are owned by companies and/or citizens of the Russian Federation. The organization published the findings of the report today.
According to the report, 410 Russian companies participated in the state procurement of Georgia in 2011-2021.
"Out of more than 7,000 companies, 1,230 companies were registered from 1995 to 2012, and up to 5,500 - in 2013-2020. A record number of new companies - around 1,200 - were registered in 2018; More than half of the Russian citizens who own a company registered in Georgia have a Georgian surname; Large Russian companies are represented in all sectors of the Georgian economy, including energy, industry, transport infrastructure, financial sector, communications, gambling business, restaurants and hotels; 410 Russian companies participated in the state procurement of Georgia in 2011-2021. These companies received contracts worth up to 590 million GEL, which is about 1.4% of the amount spent on public procurement in Georgia in 2011-2021," reads the report.
