"Pseudo-lawyers of the National Movement talk about the "absurdity" of the verdict, referring to the fact that Gvaramia had agreed to rob the TV station with its then owners. This is a completely weak argument - when the illegal owners of the TV station and the Director General agree to rob the TV station, this will naturally not exempt the Director General from responsibility," Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze said at the briefing held at the party office.
According to him, it is truly astonishing that the United National Movement and its satellite parties, its own media outlets, NGOs, ombudsmen, and foreign lobbyists have acted and continue to act in order to prevent the administration of justice, they act against the rule of law, the judiciary, state institutions and the media, in order to maintain at least a theoretical chance of political success in the future.
As for the opinion that the arrest of Nika Gvaramia will delay the EU integration, Kobakhidze noted that the EU is not corruption, robbery or injustice, the EU is the rule of law and a society free from corruption, and without the rule of law, Georgia cannot become a member of the European family.
"We must respond unequivocally to those who try to equate Gvaramia’s non-punishment with Georgia's European perspective. In response, it must be made clear that the EU is not corruption, robbery or injustice, the EU is the rule of law and a society free of corruption. Consequently, the very National Movement, NGOs, Gvaramia and their foreign lobbyists are, in their essence, anti-EU.
Without the rule of law, we can never become members of the European family. Therefore, the Georgian Government will do its best to protect the principle of the rule of law, which is one of the main European values," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
