“I am the Prime Minister of Georgia, Gvaramia was the director of a private company, who, as far as I know, stole money or bankrupted the company. Why do you compare him to me and my family, and why do you tell people that the Prime Minister's family uses state cars?" Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili told reporters.
According to him, he uses his own car.
"You thing you caught me in a scandal, how you scared me. I am the Prime Minister of Georgia, Gvaramia was the director of a private company, who, as far as I know, stole money or bankrupted the company. Why do you compare him to me and my family, and why do you tell people that the Prime Minister's family uses state cars? This is a lie. I have the right to use state cars by law, but in spite of this, I use my own car. I do not want to talk about other topics," Gharibashvili said.
He was also asked by journalists about the reports spread about Lasha Chkhikvadze, the judge hearing Nika Gvaramia's case, according to which, Chkhikvadze was removed by the US Embassy from a program, under which he was going to travel to the United States in a few days.
According to the Prime Minister, he cannot talk about Gvaramia, because there are "Prosecutor's office and the court" for that.
"I understand your concern, but I will tell you one thing - I cannot really go into details now and I cannot comment on Gvaramia. Anyone who breaks the law, commits a crime, should be punished. Such is the arrangement of any modern, legal, civilized state. If we want to be a civilized, modern democracy, a state governed by the rule of law, where no one is above the law, then we should not have any questions. I cannot tell you anything else. I want to tell you that the process was so transparent, I am not talking about Gvaramia, I am talking about any person, other prisoners - we have the Prosecutor's Office and the court, which have become accountable, transparent, absolutely open for the last 8-9 years. A lot of reforms have been implemented and if we take the statistics across the EU member states, we are ahead of many European countries in all directions," Gharibashvili said.
