The chairman of GYLA, Nika Simonishvili, left the meeting of the working group created for the revision of the Election Code in protest.

As Simonishvili told journalists after leaving the meeting, it is unacceptable to continue participating in those meetings where the government does not allow anyone. When asked whether he will attend the next meetings of this working group, Simonishvili says that he will consult with his colleagues.

According to Simonishvili, gross interference by the government in the activities of the civil sector damages the process.

"At the meeting, we heard that "Fair Elections" has made a statement, because of which it will not be allowed in this group. This is a discriminatory decision. No matter what kind of statement someone makes, it is discriminatory not to be allowed into the working group because of it. ISFED expressed its desire to participate and indicated that it was ready to cooperate both with the opposition and Georgian Dream", Nika Simonishvili said.

For information, the non-governmental organization "Fair Elections" was not allowed to participate in the working group created for the revision of the Election Code, the first meeting of which is being held in the Parliament today.

Givi Mikanadze, the head of the working group, told journalists about this and explained the reason for the decision. According to him, "Fair Elections" lost its neutrality when it joined the demand for the dismissal of the Prime Minister. According to Mikanadze, "Fair Elections" is an organization "which falsified the results of the parallel counting of 2020, hid them for 7 weeks, and thus tarnished the image of the country".
