Parliamentary opposition urges Government to condemn so-called referendums planned by Russia in occupied territories of Ukraine and to release official statement

The part of the parliamentary opposition appeals to the Government to condemn the so-called referendums planned on the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia and to make an official statement on the mentioned issue in a timely manner. Members of Parliament Teona Akubardia, Khatia Dekanoidze, Tamar Kordzaia, Khatuna Samnidze, Ana Tsitlidze and Ana Buchukuri held a joint briefing on this topic.

The MPs also call on the President and Parliament of Georgia to make an official assessment and statement in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

According to them, the threat of annexation of the occupied territories is also present in Georgia.

"The so-called referendums were condemned by a number of our partners, although no official position or assessment has been made by Tbilisi in this regard.

We believe that based on the national interests of Georgia, the Government of Georgia should immediately condemn the holding of the so-called referendums, especially given that part of Georgia's territory is occupied by Russia and Georgia also faces a similar threat of annexation," said Teona Akubardia.

On September 23-27, Russia plans to hold referendums in the occupied territories of Ukraine in order to unify the territories with Russia.
