9 people, including Head of the Greenservice Plus company and Deputy Head of the Environmental Protection Service of Tbilisi City Hall, arrested in connection with Vake Park tragedy

9 people have been arrested in connection with the tragedy that happened in Vake Park, Kakha Muradashvili, Deputy Head of the Tbilisi Police Department, stated at a briefing held a few minutes ago at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Lasha Purtsvanidze, Head of the Greenservice Plus company, and G.V., the Deputy Head of the Environmental Protection Service of the Tbilisi City Hall, are among those arrested.

Lasha Purtsvanidze was arrested on the basis of Article 220 Prima, Part 2 and Article 362, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertain to indifference that led to the loss of human life. He is also suspected of using a fake official document.

As for G.V., he is charged with the crime provided for by Article 342, Part 2 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to indifference that led to the loss of human life.

Three children were electrocuted when they were trying to retrieve the ball that fell in the fountain in Vake ​​Park. The children were taken to the clinic by an ambulance. The condition of one of the children, a 13-year-old girl, was serious from the beginning and she died in the Khechinashvili clinic. One child is still in Iashvili clinic, and another is placed in New Hospitals clinic.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation under Article 240 prima of the Criminal Code, which refers to the violation of safety rules, which resulted in less serious or serious injury to health. According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, in the course of ongoing investigative proceedings, the case was re-qualified under Article 240 (1) I and II parts of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies the breach of safety regulations at electric facilities that resulted in death. The committed crime envisions from 4 to 7 years of imprisonment.
