Georgia continues to make consistent progress on the path to joining the European Union and is taking steps to achieve maximum harmonization with its legislation and a high level of institutional integration, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, said during his speech in the Minister's Hour format in the Parliament and presented important achievements of Georgia on the path of integration into the European Union.

According to the Minister, the decision of the European Commission of June 23, 2023 regarding the recognition of Georgia's European perspective formally opened the door to Georgia's accession to the European Union and took Georgia-EU relations to a completely new level.

According to the him, Georgia presented a specific action plan, which clearly proved the unshakable will that Georgia will continue to actively work on all the obligations that serve the goal of the country joining the European Union.

The first diplomat of Georgia especially emphasized the support expressed for the European future of Georgia at public speeches and bilateral meetings of high-ranking officials of the EU institutions and member states.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also drew attention to the dynamics of visits between Georgia and the European Union, including the visits of the Prime Minister of Georgia and the head of the Foreign Ministry to Brussels, as well as the visit of the delegations of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Security and Defense (SEDE) to Georgia.

Speaking of future plans, Ilia Darchiashvili said that intensive work with EU institutions and member states will continue, both in bilateral and multilateral formats, in order to mobilize political and institutional resources to ensure Georgia's European perspective. As the Minister noted, one of the priorities for Georgia is to start a high-level dialogue with the European Union on the issue of connectivity, which is an issue of great interest for the European Commission. Ilia Darchiashvili also said that next year, active efforts will be made to find new opportunities in terms of economic and sectoral integration with the European Union. He also noted that Georgia remains among the leading beneficiaries of EU programmes.
