Gia Volski: There are no issues on which Salome Zurabishvili can talk to the President of Azerbaijan, she should exercise restraint

There are no issues on which Salome Zurabishvili can talk to the President of Azerbaijan, First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Gia Volski, said on PalitraNews TV while evaluating the statement of the Presidential Administration, according to which the President of Georgia had not been informed about the visit of the first person of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

In addition, as Volski noted, the right question is: "Is Salome Zurabishvili being punished for exceeding her constitutional rights" because, she has exceeded her authority many times.

"According to our Constitution, the head of state is the prime minister, and according to the constitution of Azerbaijan - the president. Heads of state also arrive in Germany and meet the chancellor, they don't meet President Steinmeier, and nobody makes a big deal of it. There are topics that are not directly under the authority of the President, and the President knows it quite well," said Volski.

According to him, Salome Zurabishvili has made inappropriate claims regarding many issues.

“I don't see the need to talk so much about this topic, I know that the President of Azerbaijan had issues of special importance, and I don't think that the topic of this visit should be overshadowed by whether the President of Georgia, who does not have the powers and obligations under the Constitution, met him. Maybe she is being punished because she exceeded her constitutional rights?! It's a correct question. The word "punishment" is not correct, but she exceeded her constitutional relations many times, but none of my colleagues has made a big deal of it," said Volski.

When asked whether such relations between the President and other branches of government create discomfort in the eyes of international friends, Volski said that it does create discomfort.

“The President should exercise restraint in similar cases, and there was absolutely no need to make a big deal out of this topic," said Volski.
