In 2018-2022, a total of 4,446,623 GEL fines were issued due to the pollution of the environment with waste in the territory of the capital.
As IPN was informed in response to public information requested from the Tbilisi City Hall, from January to October 2022, 1,612 penalty protocols were issued in Tbilisi, according to which the amount of the fine amounted to 1,029,320 GEL. As for the years 2018-2021, according to the statistics of the Municipal Inspection of Tbilisi City Hall, in total, 9573 natural persons, 954 legal entities were fined, 10,624 protocols were issued, and the amount of the fine amounted to 3 417 303 GEL.
More specifically, in 2018-2021, in Tbilisi, a total of 7,659 fines were issued to individuals and legal entities for dumping municipal waste, and a total of 2,915 fines were issued for littering with construction and inert waste; and for environmental pollution with hazardous waste - 50 protocols. The amount of the fine amounted to 3,417,303 GEL in 2018-21.
In addition, IPN requested information from the Tbilisi City Hall on the cases of repeated violations by individuals and legal entities, as well as on places where the most penalty protocols have been issued for pollution and how often the relevant service of the Tbilisi City Hall is obliged to check in case of detection of violations, however, according to information provided by the agency, the municipality has not produced such statistics.
