The Personal Data Protection Service has started an investigation to study the legality of the disclosure of Mikheil Saakashvili's personal data. The Personal Data Protection Service publishes a statement about this.

The case concerns the distribution of video footage of Mikheil Saakashvili's stay in Vivamed by the Special Penitentiary Service.

"On February 15, 2023, the Special Penitentiary Service, a state sub-departmental institution included in the system of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, made public the video footage of imprisoned Mikheil Saakashvili's stay in the medical institution.

As soon as the said video footage were made public, the Personal Data Protection Service, in accordance with the first paragraph of Article 40¹³ of the Law of Georgia "On Personal Data Protection", on its own initiative, immediately started an investigation in order to study the legality of the disclosure of Mikheil Saakashvili's personal data.

As is known to the public, the agency is investigating the legality of the release of the video footage of Mikheil Saakashvili's stay in the medical facility by the Special Penitentiary Service on December 14, 2022, in connection with which the actions necessary to make a summary decision are actively being carried out.

The Personal Data Protection Service will inform the public about the results of the study," the agency says.
