It should be clearly stated that this law regulates the issues of realization of foreign influence and does not in any way refer to espionage activities. Many spies are worried about this law, but I will reassure them that they have nothing to worry about, the chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze said while talking about the foreign agents bill.
As Kobakhidze noted, any big state has an interest in carrying out some type of intervention in a small state, and of course this is done, among other things, through spies.
"I am the chairman of the ruling party, therefore it will be difficult for me to specify by name those people who are engaged in espionage activities in Georgia. But I want to say in general, to reassure these people, that this law does not deal with espionage, it deals only with issues of foreign influence. As for spies, I will say in general that there are spies in Georgian politics. I won't say who controls them, who are they, etc. But I will tell you that there were such people in our team at one time too, and there were also spies of a spy, agents of an agent. This is a common occurrence in general. Any big state has an interest in carrying out some type of intervention in a small state, and of course this is done through spies," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
