We have seen nothing but false information and baseless accusations - we have not seen any evidence which would make someone suspect that the enforcement of international sanctions in Georgia is not being carried out properly, said Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili.
According to him, baseless accusations and unverified information are often spread regarding the implementation of sanctions.
"For more than a year, you would have seen dozens of statements of the Ministry of Finance and the agencies subordinated to it on the baseless accusations that were made specifically against the agency and against the country. During this period, we have not seen anything except false information and baseless accusations, we have not seen any evidence which would make someone suspect that the enforcement of international sanctions in Georgia is not being carried out properly. In this regard, we have heard the statements made by both the American side and the European Union and at the level of ambassadors - there is no fact that there is at least one case in Georgia that someone was able to bypass the sanctions. At the same time, we can look back over the past year and see more than 50-70 statements that we had to disseminate. It is a pity that before the spread of each such information, there was practically no verification of the information with the relevant agency, which is responsible for the enforcement of sanctions in the trade sector. It is a very bad fact when unverified information is spread and then explanations are necessary about it. In this direction, Georgia is one of the advanced countries not only in the region, but also in the European continent, in the direction of tax and customs administration and directly in terms of the enforcement of sanctions. Naturally, in relation to Georgia, there may be more attention, because we are a country bordering Russia," said Lasha Khutsishvili.
