Deputies of the Parliament of Georgia, Rostom Chkheidze, Nato Chkheidze and Nika Machutadze are leaving the United National Movement faction.
Machutadze declares that they fully agree with today's decision, however, he notes that the spread information about the deal with Georgian Dream is a lie and they fully distance themselves from the clan.
"Deputies - Rostom Chkheidze, Nato Chkheidze and I, Nika Machutadze, who are elected to the Parliament of Georgia from the party list of the movement "The State for the People", announce that we are leaving the faction "United National Movement - the United Opposition - Strength Is in Unity". Here we confirm that we fully agree with today's decision and although people have been talking about hiding, we of course deny it and state that we are not hiding anywhere.
Some TV stations were talking about a deal. This is a shameless lie. Rostom Chkheidze, Nato Chkheidze and Nika Machutadze didn't have a deal with anyone. We have not communicated with Georgian Dream. We did not have a meeting with Georgian Dream. We have not had a phone call with Georgian Dream. We have nothing to do with the clan which is very firmly seated in the Council of Justice.
We categorically distance ourselves from the judicial clan that exists in the judicial system of the country," said Nika Machutadze.
As a result of the voting held at the plenary session of the Parliament, only three of the five non-judge member vacancies in the Supreme Council of Justice were filled. Three non-judge members were elected to the Supreme Council of Justice. Tristan Benashvili (93 votes), Giorgi Gzobava (91 votes) and Zurab Guraspashvili (93 votes) received more than 90 votes.
The majority of Georgian Dream has a total of 84 votes in the Parliament.
The positions of 5 non-judge members in the Supreme Council of Justice have been vacant for almost two years. The term of office of the non-judge members of the Supreme Council of Justice elected by the Parliament expired in June 2021. The positions of 5 non-judge members in the Council are vacant after the term of office of the non-judge members of the Council: Nazi Janezashvili, Irma Gelashvili, Levan Gzirishvili, Zaza Kharebava and Shota Kadagidze has expired. Accordingly, from June 2021, instead of 15 members, there are only 10 members in the Supreme Council of Justice.
