Nika Machutadze: I admit that it is my personal political mistake - the mistake happened because we were not involved in the negotiations and were not informed

I admit that it is my personal political mistake - the mistake happened because we were not involved in the negotiations and were not informed - I found myself in a very difficult position! - says MP Nika Machutadze, who is one of those who supported the three non-judge members elected to the Supreme Council of Justice.

According to Machutadze, regarding the issue of choosing five non-judge members of the Supreme Council of Justice, the parliamentary opposition talked to the government about various consensual models and formulas, although there was no proper communication on this topic within the opposition wing itself.

"There was a three-to-two formula, and there was also a four-to-one formula, which, by the way, was the most relevant. In addition, in the 12 points of the European recommendations, there was an issue of solving this topic by consensus. To be honest, we knew that negotiations were going on, but our political movement was somehow not involved in these negotiations. We knew that the issue had to go in this direction. We have discussed certain acceptable candidates together with our colleagues.

I realize that this position of ours could be a kind of communication problem on the opposition side. There was no such agreement and no one told us that we were not voting for anyone - we were neither warned nor informed about it!

As soon as the story broke out in the Parliament and we saw that the process was not agreed upon and the general opinion of the opposition was different, we immediately stopped the process and left the plenary session hall," said Nika Machutadze.

As a result of the voting held at the plenary session of the Parliament, only three of the five non-judge member vacancies in the Supreme Council of Justice were filled. Three non-judge members were elected to the Supreme Council of Justice. Tristan Benashvili (93 votes), Giorgi Gzobava (91 votes) and Zurab Guraspashvili (93 votes) received more than 90 votes.
