Irakli Kobakhidze: We will be ready in every way to get candidate status in December, but now a political decision is being made - when the decision is political, the chances are always 50/50

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream party, the government has set itself a deadline of the end of June for the implementation of 12 recommendations, in order not to leave even an excuse for not granting the EU membership candidate status in December.

As Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists, Europe must make a political decision in December, and when it comes to a political decision, "the chances are 50/50".

According to him, the government hopes that this year, unlike last year, the European Parliament will make a fair decision and Georgia will have the status of a candidate.

"There are 12 points and reforms are being implemented. All points will be completed by the end of June. This is our plan, which we presented to the Georgian society about 1 year ago. We said that by the end of this month, by the end of June, all points would be fulfilled. We clearly fulfill our promise to the Georgian society and the European Commission. By the end of this month, all points will be clearly fulfilled.

Of course, there is a deadline. We set this deadline for ourselves in order not to leave even an excuse in December for not granting the status of a candidate for EU membership.

Everyone knows that we deserved the candidate status last June as well, which was confirmed by the European Commission. We will be ready in every way to get candidate status in December, but now a political decision is being made. When the decision is political, the chances are always 50/50. The political context has not changed substantially since last June, but we still hope to get the status. We have to wait for the December decision and we hope that this time, unlike last year, they will make a fair decision," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
