McFall published an interview and said the following: Ukraine will definitely become a member of NATO, the only thing that remains to be seen is how and when. This attitude is funny, if not satirical, but in reality the attitude is like this, the status quo has not changes, Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of Georgian Dream, told journalists, speaking of the NATO summit in Vilnius.
"Nobody knew yesterday when and how Georgia and Ukraine would become NATO members, and the situation is the same after yesterday's Communiqué, which means that the status quo has been maintained. The decision of the Bucharest summit that both countries will definitely become NATO members remains in force, although there was no specifics beyond that, which is understandable. Attitudes were directly reflected in this document, including in relation to Russia. NATO has a pragmatic policy towards Russia. This document directly states that confrontation with Russia is not NATO's desire, and the expression of this attitude is that we do not have any news, the status quo is maintained," said Kobakhidze.
According to him, the Bucharest summit status quo is maintained and the same applies to Ukraine.
"The status quo has been maintained for Georgia and Ukraine, which means that neither Georgia nor Ukraine has progressed. Therefore, we are not talking about progress, there is no progress. It was interesting, McFall published an interview, if I'm not mistaken, he gave an interview to one of the radio stations and said that Ukraine will definitely become a member of NATO, the only thing that remains to be seen is how and when. This is the attitude - it's funny, if not satirical, but actually the attitude is like this, the status quo has not changed, and the essence of the status quo is that even today no one knows when and how Georgia and Ukraine will become NATO members, which is understandable from the point of view of the pragmatic policy that NATO has in relation to Russia," Kobakhidze said.
According to him, three conditions were set for Ukraine to join NATO. The first condition is to win the war, the second condition is to fulfill the requirements related to the reforms and the third condition is to have a full consensus among NATO members.
According to Kobakhidze, if at least one of these three conditions is not met, in such a case, Ukraine cannot become a member of NATO.
"In other words, three very strict conditions were set for Ukraine to join NATO, which I will repeat once again, is an expression of the pragmatic policy observed by NATO in relation to Russia," said Kobakhidze.
According to him, it is written in the Communiqué that NATO is not looking for a confrontation with Russia, therefore, the existing status quo has been preserved.
"Imagine, Ukraine is in such a big war and still the status quo remains, what step should we have taken in such conditions in order to have progress. The main problem is when and how - there was no answer to this. As it did not exist before yesterday, it does not exist after yesterday either. That is, no one knows when and how. Imagine, the country is in a state of war and despite this there is no progress. In such conditions, what progress Georgia could have achieved, you can see for yourself, it was absolutely unrealistic," Kobakhidze said.
