We were one of the first countries to join President Xi Jinping's Belt and Road Initiative. In 2015, in order to respond to this decision and demonstrate our support, I founded the "Tbilisi Silk Road Forum", Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili told China Central Television (CCTV).

As the head of the Government noted, Georgia was a constituent part of the ancient Silk Road, and therefore, this is a very important opportunity for us.

"I fully support President Xi Jinping's initiatives. You mentioned the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative. I also want to tell you that we were probably one of the first countries to join the Belt and Road Initiative. It was an initiative of President Xi Jinping. For information, I want to tell you that in 2015, in order to respond to this decision and demonstrate our support, I founded the "Tbilisi Silk Road Forum". As you know, Georgia was part of the ancient Silk Road. Therefore, for us, for Georgia, this is a very important opportunity. All these initiatives are great! There are extraordinary ideas, creative ideas and only related to peace, prosperity and stability. More and more countries will take inspiration from this and support these initiatives," said the Prime Minister.
