According to National Movement MP Davit Khajishvili, the party supports the lowering of the electoral threshold. As he told the journalists, this is important so that the votes of the opposition are not lost.
"UNM is in favor of it and will support this process in every way if the threshold is lowered. If we want to strengthen democracy, the electoral threshold should be lowered because the so-called small parties could overcome this threshold, and voters who vote for these small parties must be represented in the Parliament. Also, this is important so that the opposition votes are not lost and do not go to the Georgian Dream election piggy bank. Georgian Dream is also expecting that it will be able to maintain the government only with this situation, otherwise, according to all polls, it will move to the opposition. Accordingly, either the threshold should be lowered or these small parties should unite with each other, they should find a common language so that the opposition votes are not lost," said Khajishvili.
As for participation in the working group, Khajishvili explains that the National Movement will participate in it if it sees that the European work is being done and the authorities really want to implement the recommendations of the European Commission.
"We have a sad reality of how Georgian Dream fulfills the recommendations of the European Union. We have seen that 9 out of 12 recommendations are not implemented. 3 is executed as a facade. These are the words of our European friends, not just mine. Therefore, we do not have high expectations, however, National Movement will be everywhere, where the European work is being done for Georgia. We will see what agenda the government will have, what the situation will be like in that working environment. It should also be said that we are working separately to fulfill these reservations. If we see that Georgian Dream is really doing European work and really thinks about fulfilling these reservations, National Movement will be everywhere where European work is being done", said Khajishvili.
In addition, he also spoke about polarization and noted that it will be possible to end it only after ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili is released.
"Partskhaladze has initiated a case against Mikheil Saakashvili, this already raises big question marks. Partskhaladze is sanctioned by our American friends. The judges who made the decision that Mikheil Saakashvili is guilty are also sanctioned. In this case, of course, the end of polarization is impossible. Until Mikheil Saakashvili is not free, unfortunately, the polarization in our country will not end," said Khajishvili.
