Zurab Japaridze: The chance of winning this year's elections is higher than in 2020, but a different kind of mobilization is needed, for which the opposition is not in shape - it is important to consolidate forces, we have consultations with many political groups

The opposition's chance of winning this year's elections is higher than it was in 2020, Zurab Japaridze, the leader of "Girchi-More Freedom", said on the "PalitraNews" program in "Tavisupali Studio".

In addition, according to Japaridze, the opposition is still not in shape in terms of mobilizing for victory, although it does not look at the current situation pessimistically and tragically.

"I do not look at the situation pessimistically and tragically. I think the chances of winning are quite high. These chances are even higher than in 2020. Even in 2020, if the elections were not rigged, the opposition would have won, but I think that now the opposition can produce much better results. Among them, such a result when falsification will not help the "dream" anymore, but this requires a different mobilization and a different type of work. In this part, the opposition is still not in the form it should be in and is not busy with what it should be busy with," said Zurab Japaridze.

Japaridze talks about the consolidation of the opposition political spectrum and states that "Girchi - more freedom" is consulting with various political groups.

"Consolidation of forces is important and necessary. This is not only about the 5% threshold. In addition to this, there is a lack of resources on the opposition side, coordination is needed even in terms of vote protection, as well as to bring issues of common importance to the parliament. There are many issues, and yes, some consolidation of forces before the elections is important, among them it is related to the electoral threshold. "If we are talking about victory, it is impossible for Georgian Dream to take pro-Western votes critical of the government, and this requires such a configuration on this side that votes are not lost," said Zurab Japaridze.

According to Zurab Japaridze, consultations are being held with several political groups, but no decision has yet been made on any type of unity.

"We have consultations and this has never been hidden from us. We were the initiators of the consolidation almost two years ago. Now we have consultations at this very moment. A decision on any type of unity has not yet been made. This is a process that needs to be carefully followed, so I sometimes avoid making some statements in advance, but we have some type of consultations with a number of political groups", said Zurab Japaridze.

In addition, according to Zura Japaridze, today it is considered politics to go on television and comment on current events, while no one talks about meaningful topics, because the political market does not ask them to do so.

"I think that there is a problem of talking about content on the opposition wing. One of the reasons for this is that the government at the time, years ago, stopped the debate, and the disappearance of this debate, including from the media space, led to the fact that what is politics today? - Go on airs in the evenings, sometimes in daytime airs and make comments on current events. It is an easy life for a Georgian politician. It is believed to be a policy and the content has not been discussed for years. If you put the Georgian political spectrum, 19 out of 20 content cannot talk to you about any direction, this is the reality. This does not mean that they cannot understand and prepare for something, but today's political market does not ask them to do so and they easily pass the background", said Zurab Japaridze.
