If Ukraine had an ambassador in Georgia, they probably wouldn't have made such a statement, - this is how Prime Minister-designate Irakli Kobakhidze responded to the statement made by the Embassy of Ukraine relating to the information spread by the State Security Service.
According to Kobakhidze, politicization has nothing to do with the country's security issue.
"Politicization has nothing to do with it, they threatened our state interests. The country's security is also a political issue, but politicization has nothing to do with it. If Ukraine had an ambassador in Georgia, they probably would not have made such a statement," said Kobakhidze.
According to him, the facts spread by the State Security Service are a proof that the high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian government want a second front in Georgia.
"When someone outside the country tries to make Georgia a target of Russian aggression inside the country, this is a very serious event and very disturbing. This once again confirms what, in principle, the high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian government openly said that they wanted and probably still want a second front in our country. Such facts that we have seen, which were revealed by the the State Security Service, are another confirmation of all this," said Kobakhidze.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia issued a statement earlier today regarding the information released by the State Security Service.
"The Embassy of Ukraine is verifying the information disseminated at the briefing of the State Security Service of Georgia, investigating all the circumstances, in particular, as it became known, regarding the involvement of Ukrainian citizens in illegal activities.
The embassy hopes that the Georgian side will refrain from politicizing this case.
We express our interest and readiness for a constructive relationship with the law enforcement and other competent bodies of Georgia in order to objectively, impartially and fully clarify all the circumstances of the case and to determine its real organizers", the embassy says in the statement.
For information, according to the State Security Service, the Counter-Terrorist Center of the agency seized 14 kilograms of explosives in Georgia, which were brought from the Ukrainian city of Odesa through Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, through the Sarpi checkpoint. According to the State Security Service, 7 citizens of Georgia, 3 citizens of Ukraine and 2 citizens of Armenia were involved in bringing the devices to Georgia, taking one of the containers in transit to the Russian Federation, and placing the other one in the capital. According to the agency, the mentioned process was organized by the citizen of Ukraine, the candidate for deputy of the Kiev district of the local Rada of Odesa district in 2020 from the party "Servant of the People", Andrei Sharashidze, who is originally from the city of Batumi.
