Anri Okhanashvili: Representatives of the opposition had agreed with us on the majority of issues, then they come out and said the opposite

Representatives of the opposition had agreed with us on the majority of issues, then they come out and said the opposite - we did not move on to the discussion of the issues on which the opposition says that they are not ready to make decisions, - said the Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee, Anri Okhanashvili.

He states that the issues on which the opposition agreed refer to special investigative and personal data protection services.

"Regarding special investigative and personal data protection services, they agreed with us when we said we would share the recommendation of the Venice Commission regarding the development of special reports. They also agreed with us that it is appropriate to refine the procedures, we agreed that the discussion on the issue of subordination should continue and they agreed with us on this as well. Practically, they agreed with us on absolute majority of the issues. Then they came to you and said the opposite. It is a political embarrassment on the one hand and misleading their voters on the other. With this, their word has no value, and the vast majority of society does not trust them. This is a sad thing. At the meeting, the issue regarding the introduction of a special prosecutor and the election of the heads of the service by a qualified majority was raised. We will continue to discuss these issues. We have not started discussing the issues related to the anti-corruption service, and the opposition has already made its conclusions. We have not moved on to discuss the issues on which the opposition tells you that they are not ready to make decisions", said Okhanashvili.

According to him, individual oppositionists also agree with them that what the Venice Commission will say is not a dogma.

"Representatives of individual opposition parties agree with us on this, they may find it difficult to tell you this, but try to open them up, ask specific questions and they will have to answer", Okhanashvili said.
