President: We have many challenges in front of us in order to be worthy of our past and for the situation of women in Georgia to be as befits the history of Georgia

We live in a country with a strong history in the direction that women created the history of Georgia - let's be proud of the past, it is not enough, there are many challenges before us in order to be worthy of our past and for the situation of women in Georgia to be such as corresponds to the history of Georgia - about this, President Salome Zurabishvili said this during a speech at the event dedicated to Women's Day in the Orbeliani Palace.

According to her, women have a very big role in Georgia today, but many things can be done to achieve equality.

"March 8 is Women's Day, but not only Women's Day, but also Strong Women's Day, and therefore, double congratulations to everyone who came here today and with whom today we want to mention the current situation of women in our country. We live in a country with a strong history and past, precisely in this direction, where women were considered and created the history of Georgia in different periods. The indicator of this is even the fact that there is practically no name in Georgia that is not associated with a strong woman. This is not the case in other countries. In modern Georgia, we are proud that during the first republic, women were elected and had the right to vote. Compared to other European countries, this is a step forward, but it is not enough to be proud of the past. There are many challenges before us in order to be worthy of our past and the situation of women in Georgia should be as befits the history of Georgia. In many areas, we are not yet in a position to be fully proud of. Women have a very big role in Georgia today. There is practically no economic sector or any direction, cultural or otherwise, where women are not represented and are not strongly represented. Often our face goes abroad through women, so we can be proud of these women. But we have to look deeper and see that many things can be done in the direction that equality, which is the main goal, is achieved", said Salome Zurabishvili.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
