Sozar Subari on Peter Stano’s statement: Such an attitude is not fair, especially since vetting was not requested by the EU, it was not part of the 9 conditions

Vetting means a very blatant interference in the judicial system and our team's position is clear, we said that this is not allowed, we will not allow it and it will not be done under any circumstances, but a strange thing happened: after this was clearly declared by us, the EU Spokesperson came out and listed all the criteria that is meant by the word "vetting", Sozar Subari, Chairman of People's Power, said in response to the statement made by Peter Stano, the Spokesperson for the European Commission.

As Subari explained, while Peter Stano's statement does not mention the term "vetting," it does list all of the points that make up "vetting."

According to him, the said statement strangely coincided with the initiation of the law against LGBT propaganda, which will be announced to the public on Monday.

"He did not mention the term "vetting", but he listed all the points and said that this is a path leading to the European Union. It is a very strange and symptomatic coincidence that this happened just as we have practically already initiated the law banning LGBT propaganda and on Monday it will be publicly announced. It seems that they know the mood of the people, that's why they couldn't tell us anything about this law, that's why they came to us from the other door and tell us that if you don't conduct the vetting requested by the NGOs, in this case, Georgia will face some problems on the way to the European Union. Such an attitude on the part of our partners is not fair, it is not correct, especially since vetting was not requested by the European Union, it was not part of the 9 conditions.

There is nothing similar in any country. There were two countries, Ukraine and Moldova, where it was done, and there the assessment is absolutely negative, everyone unanimously noted that the vetting system did not work. Even such authoritative organizations as the Venice Commission said that vetting brought worse results, and for some reason they are now demanding it in Georgia. Again, this all ties in with the LGBT propaganda bill, which is due to be presented to the public on Monday, and they seem to be failing to tell us this and are threatening us in a roundabout way that if you don't comply with all of our demands, in this case, you may face some problems on your way to the EU”, Sozar Subari said.

According to him, all the rules applicable in the European Union regarding the court are acceptable for Georgia, however, the country cannot accept new and different rules. According to Subari, the partners should talk to Georgia as a sovereign state and should not impose rules that are unacceptable in their countries.
