Nika Melia on the statement of the Helsinki Commission: I want to believe that in September the representatives of our friendly state will make a rational decision and the financial sanction will be implemented

I want to believe that in September, the representatives of our friendly state will make a rational decision and the financial sanction will be implemented, - said one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Melia, regarding the statement of the Helsinki Commission.

According to Melia, financial sanctions are necessary to save democracy in Georgia."When political connections are frozen, when Western money no longer comes in the form of grants and tranches, because they were convinced that Georgian Dream used this money to strengthen the autocracy, not to develop democracy, when it is already on the palm of their hands that the call center scheme is of Georgian Dream. The United States of America is talking about this, of course, these people will face financial sanctions sooner or later. Better sooner than later. I want to believe that in September, the representatives of our friendly state will make a rational decision and the financial sanction will be implemented. This is necessary to save democracy in Georgia", said Melia.

According to him, international friends have changed their position towards "Georgian Dream"."Jeanne Shaheen's position has changed. In 2020, she did not think that Bidzina Ivanishvili was what he is today. This is welcome, international friends support the Georgian people. There are 1-round elections in the country, which do not serve the interests of Ivanishvili's government, the rest is in our hands. "Coalition government will form a new political culture, where not a single politician can take over the country," said Melia.

For reference, the Helsinki Commission published a statement stating that Georgian Dream relies on black money received from a network of fraudulent call centers around the world to finance its activities and harass the opposition.
