Petras Austrevichus: The Georgian government has turned to the path of eastern populism - I call on the Georgian people to refuse dangerously destructive manipulation by Russia - you belong to Europe

The actions of the Georgian government took the country in a different, non-European, non-Western direction. Sakarvelo's government abandoned its previous promise and turned to the path of eastern populism, - European Parliamentarian Petras Austrevichus said during the ongoing debate on the issue of Georgia in the European Parliament.

According to him, the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, should be released immediately and unconditionally.

"I repeat the general call for the immediate and unconditional release of President Saakashvili," the MEP said.

According to him, the actions of the people in the government of Georgia to provoke antagonism with the West have yielded their results - "the political dialogue with the USA and the European Union has largely stopped and the Georgian government has confined itself to the top of Kazbegi mountain".

"The upcoming elections are an opportunity for Sakarvelo to restore the European dream. I call on the Georgian people to refuse dangerously destructive manipulation by Russia. You belong to Europe", said the MEP
