Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, spoke about recent billboards and videos produced by "Georgian Dream" that have sparked controversy, explaining that they were designed to expose the truth about the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
According to Kobakhidze, for over two and a half years, specific entities successfully kept the full reality of Ukraine's situation hidden from the Georgian public, portraying the war-torn country in a way that suggested it was something to be envied.
"I would like to respond to the well-known billboards and the corresponding commercial, which depicted the events taking place in Ukraine - the image of the war and on the other side - the development of the country. Specific entities are worried about these billboards and the corresponding video clip for one simple reason - for 2.5 years, they successfully managed to hide from the population of Georgia what happened and what is happening today in Ukraine, where there is a complete disaster in terms of economic, humanitarian, infrastructure, etc. For two and a half years, they presented the events in such a way that we should be jealous of Ukraine, they directly used this term to show that they were jealous of Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, and the Ukrainian state”, Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze argued that the billboards and video revealed the harsh economic, humanitarian, and infrastructural realities in Ukraine, contradicting the narrative that had been promoted. He claimed that these revelations disturbed those who had previously presented the situation in Ukraine as desirable for Georgian society, specifically because they wanted to manipulate public opinion to support a second front of war in Georgia.
