Ana Tsitlidze accuses Director of Enguri HPP of suppressing voter participation among IDPs by confiscating ID cards and collaborating with Russian occupiers

Ana Tsitlidze, a Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the Zugdidi branch of the "Unity-National Movement" party, has raised serious allegations against Levan Mebonia, the director of the Enguri Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP). Tsitlidze claims that Mebonia has been actively involved in a scheme to suppress voter participation among internally displaced persons (IDPs) by confiscating their identity cards and negotiating with Russian occupiers to close the Enguri Bridge.

Tsitlidze stated that Mebonia is instructing Enguri HPP employees, particularly those opposed to the government, to surrender their ID cards so they cannot vote in the upcoming elections. Additionally, she accused Mebonia of negotiating with Russian forces to close the Enguri Bridge from October 24 to 26, which would prevent IDPs living in the occupied territories from crossing into Georgian-controlled areas to vote.

"We know those people who participate in the process of confiscating ID cards and perform illegal tasks. One of them is Levan Mebonia, the director of Engurhesi, who has been accused of two criminal acts. First, Levan Mebonia has the task of confiscating the identity cards of most of the Enguri HPP workers who are in opposition, so that they cannot go to the polling stations and vote on election day. The second, more serious crime - Levan Mebonia is the main negotiator with the Russian occupiers to close the Enguri Bridge on October 24, 25 and 26, so that the IDPs - Georgian citizens from the occupied territory - are not allowed to participate in the elections.

She also called on the employees of Enguri HPP to come forward with further evidence, assuring them of protection from retaliation. Tsitlidze further noted that "Georgian Dream" has initiated efforts to confiscate ID cards in the region from citizens with opposition political leanings. However, she expressed confidence that most citizens are resisting these attempts, despite fears of losing social assistance.

As I told you earlier, "Georgian Dream" started the process of confiscating ID cards in the region for citizens with questionable political choices. We receive information on a daily basis. The good news is that the majority of citizens do not give their ID cards to the representatives of the "Dream", the majority of them are socially vulnerable and represent a vulnerable group, because they are afraid that if they do not hand over their ID cards, then they will withdraw their social assistance, but it is inconceivable that the "Georgian Dream" "To have the resources to take away ID cards from the whole of Zugdidi, the whole of Samegrelo and the whole of Georgia", said Ana Tsitlidze, whose comment is spread by "Unity - National Movement".

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
