Irakli Gharibashvili: Our country is still facing the risk of war

Irakli Gharibshvili, the chairman of "Georgian Dream" declared that Georgia remains at risk of war, warning that both internal and external enemies are aiming to bring to power forces "subservient to foreign interests." Speaking at a regional event in Batumi for the "Georgian Dream" election campaign, Gharibashvili claimed that these forces are willing to seize power through "chaos" and "revolution," eventually leading Georgia into war.

"Unfortunately, our country is still facing the risk of war—our internal and external enemies know very well that the only way to achieve their goals is to bring an agency subservient to foreign interests into power. These stateless people are ready to seize power at any cost, including chaos, revolution, and then, of course, they should involve Georgia in the war," Gharibashvili stated.

He emphasized that "Georgian Dream" and its founder Bidzina Ivanishvili are the guarantors of preventing such a scenario, ensuring peace and stability for the country.

Gharibashvili recounted the "historic victory" of October 1, 2012, when, in his words, the people of Georgia removed an "anti-national regime" from power. He praised Ivanishvili’s role in defeating what he described as a government that "stood on terror, blackmail, and suppression of any different views."

Reflecting on the progress made in the last 12 years, Gharibashvili asserted, "There is no area left where we have not brought great progress to our country and our people." He claimed that the "Georgian Dream" government had freed businesses from state interference, restored human rights, and transformed Batumi and Adjara into "one of the outstanding seaside resorts of Europe."

Addressing the legacy of the August 2008 war, Gharibashvili criticized the former government, stating, "The biggest crime and betrayal they committed is the war of August 2008," accusing them of dragging the country into conflict, which resulted in "the lives of our heroic soldiers, the occupation of additional territories, and thousands of refugees."

Gharibashvili reiterated his warning that Georgia is still facing the risk of war: "The internal and external enemies of the country know very well that the only way to achieve their goal is to bring an agency submissive to foreign interests into power... and then, of course, involve Georgia in the war."

However, he assured the audience that "Georgian Dream" will continue to protect the country, stating, "Our leader, Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili, and 'Georgian Dream' are the guarantors of avoiding this, neutralizing risks, and maintaining peace and stability in the country."

Gharibashvili concluded by stressing the importance of the upcoming October 26 elections, urging citizens to choose between "war or peace" and to support "the preservation of peace and the victory of our country."
