Coalition "Strong Georgia" is suing media outlets - "Imedi" and Rustavi 2" for refusing to air their election video.
As one of the leaders of the coalition, Ana Natsvlishvili, said at a briefing held in the office, not airing election ads is "illegal, unconstitutional political censorship".
According to her, without ensuring a free media environment, the election period will not be considered free.
"The government's panic that it will lose the October 26 election seems to have been transferred to the media they control. Unfortunately, TV companies "Imedi" and "Rustavi 2" do not even hesitate to go against the Constitution of Georgia in order to block the voice of "Strong Georgia" and prevent us from speaking the truth about the government to the citizens of Georgia; The truth about the crimes committed by "Georgian Dream". For a very long time, we have been following the fact that "Imedi" does not allow us to broadcast live for years and blocks the opportunity to talk to the citizens of Georgia about what they are interested in, but what we are seeing now is illegal, unconstitutional political censorship. They went to great lengths to block our election ads. This is against the law.
Today, we will file two complaints against the TV companies "Imedi" and "Rustavi 2". This is not only going against the political union, it is a gross and systematic violation of the rights of every citizen of Georgia, which these media outlets are doing. This is especially difficult for democracy in the pre-election period. I would like to remind you all that the electoral environment and elections cannot and will not be considered free and conducted in a free environment, if it is not provided with a free media environment. What they and these two media outlets are doing now is an unconstitutional restriction of a free media environment. We have seen for a long time that you are busy promoting very dirty Russian methods against the opposition, but what you are doing now against the citizens is no longer relevant.
This is the continuation of the authoritarian actions that are the signature of "Georgian Dream", when they do not shy away from breaking the law, violence, intimidation campaign, but to keep their power", said Ana Natsvlishvili.
