Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the German Bundestag, expressed his gratitude to the political parties that supported the resolution on Georgia passed in the Bundestag. Roth emphasized the critical nature of the upcoming elections in Georgia on October 26, stating that the Georgian people face a pivotal decision between aligning with the EU or facing isolation, as well as choosing between democracy and totalitarianism.
In a post on social media platform X, Roth wrote: "Thank you to our colleagues from ‘Light’ and the CDU/CSU coalition for their clear commitment to a democratic, free, and European Georgia. On October 26, the Georgian people will decide whether it is the European Union or isolation, democracy or totalitarianism."
The resolution, titled "For the European Future of Georgia," was supported by the German Bundestag and highlights concerns about Georgia’s current political direction. The document warns that the authoritarian and anti-European course of Georgia's government is jeopardizing the country's European future. It also underscores that laws like the "Transparency of Foreign Influence" law are incompatible with Georgia’s aspirations to join the European Union.
Additionally, the resolution criticizes the influence of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of the ruling "Georgian Dream" party, suggesting that maintaining his power appears to take priority over the country's European future and democratic stability.
