Levan Davitashvili: Partner countries have responsibility to ensure transparent elections

Levan Davitashvili, First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, emphasized the responsibility of Georgia’s partner and friendly nations in ensuring that the upcoming elections are transparent and objective. His remarks come in response to recent statements, including one from the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda.

Davitashvili acknowledged the familiar rhetoric concerning election transparency but stressed that objective evaluations are crucial during the election process. He highlighted the need for responsible actions from Georgia’s international partners to ensure a fair and transparent election, especially as the election date approaches.

“The rhetoric we have been hearing for the last few days is not new to us. Unfortunately, in many cases, processes are evaluated subjectively, which is certainly not good, because we are in the election process,” said Davitashvili. “In this case, I think the greatest responsibility is required of all our partner and friendly countries to make our election process as transparent and objective as possible.”

With less than ten days left before the election, Davitashvili emphasized, "We should give the population the opportunity to participate in the elections objectively, without pressure, and make the right choice."

This response followed comments by Lithuania’s President, Gitanas Nausėda, who stated that the upcoming Georgian elections are critical, as they will determine the country's direction, particularly in relation to its European integration goals.
