Shalva Papuashvili: European integration has not stopped and can not be stopped

European integration has not been stopped and will not be stopped - European integration is work oriented to long-term results and not following a momentary political conjuncture, - said the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, by 2028, Georgia will have fulfilled 90% of the associated agreement, which will essentially bring us closer to the membership of the European Union.

"Here I would like to touch on the term often used recently, suspension of European integration, freezing or other similar terms. The very fact that the European Commission worked on the enlargement document, evaluated Georgia's progress and gave us recommendations shows that this term is more of a political statement than an institutional situation. As the European Union continues to evaluate Georgia, we also continue to work on the issues provided for in the association agreement. This is what European integration is all about. It has not stopped and will not stop. If there is anything these achievements in the process have taught us, it is that European integration is a long-term result-oriented job, not a momentary political conjecture. In the parliamentary elections, the population made a very clear choice between the European integration process, the hysterical politics of the opposition and the business, constructive policy of "Georgian Dream", which is made taking into account the interests of the Georgian people. We have already implemented a large part of the Association Agreement and will have implemented 90% of it by 2028, bringing us substantially closer to EU membership. We will carefully study the expansion document and plan future steps taking into account the best interests of Georgian farmers, entrepreneurs, and our citizens. In recent years, Georgia has closely cooperated with the European Commission in the process of analyzing each area, and in the future we are ready to actively cooperate with the relevant institutions of the European Union for the same purpose," Papuashvili said.
