The government of Georgia took advantage of the fact that Hungary is the EU's president country - they took advantage of this, came to Budapest, attended the summit and brought even greater shame to the country, because we did not see a single handshake with any leader of the democratic world - this is how Tina, the head of the "Civil Idea" organization, assessed Khidasheli met Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze within the framework of the Fifth Summit of the European Political Union Working visit to Hungary.
As Khidasheli mentioned in the "Free Studio" program of "PalitraNews", the November 7 summit was supposed to be a summit to talk about the calendar for the start of negotiations with Georgia, but in fact "we received a summit of not shaking hands with the Prime Minister of Georgia".
"Georgian authorities took advantage of the fact that Hungary is the EU's president country, by the way, the presidency is arranged in alphabetical order, if we knew that and if someone didn't believe, as if Hungary became the EU's president country because of some achievements. He had to use the alphabet and that's why he became the president of the country. They took advantage of this, came to Budapest, attended the summit and brought even greater shame to the country, because we did not see a single handshake, not even with the leader of the democratic world. After the elections, the presidents who came to such an event are congratulated and greeted with applause. The November 7 summit was supposed to be a summit to talk about the calendar for the start of negotiations with Georgia, and actually we got a summit of November 7-8, 2024, not to shake hands with the Prime Minister of Georgia, who is there," Khidasheli said.
In addition, Khidasheli spoke about the opening of negotiations regarding Georgia's accession to the European Union and noted that this issue is not on the agenda.
According to her own assessment, the Georgian government did what the former President Eduard Shevardnadze and the Chairman of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Aslan Abashidze did in 2003.
"No one talks about it, this question is not on the agenda. This topic is closed until the government of Georgia admits this falsity and tries to correct the situation through legal mechanisms, or at the same time withdraws the laws in question. No one is fighting us for anything. The issue of Georgia is not on the agenda. The Georgian government did what Eduard Shevardnadze and Aslan Abashidze's regime did to us in 2003. Instead of holding the elections democratically in 2003, they did what they blocked, and this led to the "Rose Revolution".
I am very afraid that in 20 years we will not find ourselves in exactly the same situation that the corrupt Shevardnadze-Abashidze administration brought us to in 2004. Georgia had every chance to be part of the enlargement in 2004 if there was a democratic government here. We are facing exactly the same danger now", said Khidasheli.
In the context of foreign relations, Khidasheli also spoke about the USA presidential elections and Georgia-USA relations in light of Donald Trump's victory. It is not clear to Khidasheli - what is the joy of "Georgian Dream".
In the same context, Khidasheli noted that Georgia's strategic partnership with China will be the red line where the current government of Georgia will create a serious problem.
In addition, Khidasheli listed the red lines regarding which "Georgian Dream" will have problems with the Trump administration.
In general, it is not clear what they are happy about [Georgian Dream] or what they expect. I understand that today they need this posture in front of their own voters, because during the previous election campaign they said that we will remain in power with the elections in Georgia, then Trump will win in the American elections, liberal democracy will be defeated, but I am interested in how Trump will come to America. Does this change the form of government, is the dictatorship established or what is happening?
Yes, the "Republican Party" in America is a conservative right-wing force, so what? Have we heard anything positive about the current government of Georgia from any Republican senator or congressman? - Of course not.
What was happening in the USA-Georgia relationship during the first term of the Trump administration: It was the first and last administration when the only high-ranking USA official [Mike Pompeo] pointed a finger at the Prime Minister of Georgia [Davit Bakhtadze] during a press conference. He told the Prime Minister not to dare to give Anaklia to Russia or the Chinese. Do not dare to leave Georgia in front of this danger! We have not had another such case, this is a fact.
The second time those listening to Trump's election campaign were not as sharp about anything as when it came to Iran. No matter on Trump's agenda has been drawing a red line with anyone who wants to partner with Iran. This "flirtation" of the Georgian government with the Iranian government is very dangerous on this path. The government of Georgia will be one of the first in the small list to receive a warning.
Third, this is China. The second big red line, not only for Trump, but for Republicans as a whole, is China. Strategic partnership with China will be the red line where the current government of Georgia will create a serious problem.
From November 12, when the Congress and the Senate meet, the first task in relation to Georgia that I expect are two acts that are lying in these two chambers and waiting for a vote: the "Friendly Act" and the "Supporting Georgia Act". Who initiated these acts? - Republicans. Who is the one congressman who signed the act, on whose initiative the act was initiated? - Congressman Joe Wilson", said Khidasheli.
