When I think about where we were and where we are today, my heart hurts. The lost chance is somewhere and we have to find it together with our friends, - said the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili after the meeting with the chairmen of the Foreign Relations Committee of the 8 EU countries.
According to her, the arrival of representatives of European countries to Georgia is another sign of European support and a sign that Europe does not let Georgia go.
"I would like to welcome our guests, the delegation of European parliaments. They represent 8 countries and are truly loyal friends of Georgia, who have stood by the Georgian state, state building, and its European path from the first day. If last year, in December, we reached the level of being granted the status of a candidate, it is thanks to these friends of ours that they trusted us and granted us this status. A sign of confidence was the huge step for Georgia that we celebrated in December. When I think about where we were and where we are today, my heart aches very deeply. The lost opportunity is somewhere and it is ours to gain with our friends. Their arrival here today, when Georgia is entering a deep political crisis, is another sign of this European support. Europe does not let us down and still believes in Georgia and the Europeanness of Georgia, the Europeanness of the people of Georgia, which has been repeatedly expressed during these 33 years. When the European principles, the hope for the European future were in doubt, every time the population of Georgia, the public came out. We know many people who say that they practically spent 30 years on the streets because the government's departure from any democratic principle was always protested in this country. This is a country where the society is European, democratic and, unfortunately, which does not have a democratic government, which has a one-party government, which has taken over practically all the institutions of the country, and we got results in these elections", said Salome Zurabishvili.
