Such steps, which are against the legislation of Georgia, are only intended for PR purposes, they cannot have more impact. Everyone knows that it is impossible to cancel the lists before the first meeting of the Parliament, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said this while talking to journalists in Baku, thus evaluating the appeal of "Unity of the National Movement" and "Coalition for Change" to the CEC to cancel the lists.
According to the Prime Minister, when the first session will be held, the powers of all deputies will be known, and after that, if anyone wants, they can apply to the Parliament of Georgia or the CEC to cancel the lists and terminate their mandate.
"As you know, the constitution and legislation of Georgia contain anti-sabotage mechanisms. We used this mechanism 4 years ago, we will use it now. Such steps, which are against the legislation of Georgia, are only intended for PR purposes, they cannot have more impact. Everyone knows that it is impossible to cancel the lists before the first meeting of the Parliament, therefore, when the first session takes place, the powers of all deputies will be known. After that, if someone wants to apply to the Parliament of Georgia or the CEC to cancel the lists, to terminate the mandate, yes, they can do it, it happens only after the first session," the Prime Minister said.
According to him, the Parliament does not need the legitimacy of the opposition.
"Parliament needs the legitimacy of the Georgian people. The Georgian people gave legitimacy to the Parliament and gave the corresponding legitimacy to the parliamentary majority. As for the opposition, if they refuse the mandates given to them by a section of society, they will insult their supporters. This is their business. You can see that the opposition is ruining its reputation and situation more and more day by day, the representatives of the opposition are doing it with their own hands, which we should have done", said the Prime Minister.
At the same time, he answered the journalist's question about how he would assess the fact that "Transparency International" had spread the information that the Parliament of Georgia cannot meet without the invitation of the President.
"The constitution clearly states that the first session after the elections should be held no later than the tenth day after the publication of the summary protocol. Of course, the President's act cannot override the Constitution. Anyone who knows will confirm that it is the Constitution of Georgia that overrides the President's act. If someone claims the opposite, she/he has a problem with qualifications and integrity, or both," said the Prime Minister.
