Irakli Kobakhidze: I think that in the end everyone will enter the parliament - the parliament does not need the legitimacy of the opposition, they will enter or not, it is up to them

The parliament does not need the legitimacy of the opposition, the parliament needs the popular legitimacy, which this parliament has already received, - said Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze.

As the head of the government noted, if any parliament in any country needed the legitimacy of the opposition, no democratic system would be able to function in this case.

"I think that in the end everyone will enter the parliament. This is my prediction, although in the end these political parties have no resources, including they cannot bring any good to the parliament in the first place. They are so destructive and radical in their nature that their participation in parliamentary life will be counterproductive. Everyone remembers the previous four years, although they entered the parliament, but they did not bring anything positive to the parliamentary life, there was complete destruction, complete radicalism, therefore it can be safely said that they will enter the parliament, if they do not enter, nothing will essentially change. The main thing is one thing - the parliament does not need the legitimacy of the opposition, the parliament needs the popular legitimacy, which this parliament already received when 1 million 120 thousand people came out, supported the ruling team, when a total of 2 million 100 thousand people came out and supported various political parties, thereby Legitimization of the Parliament has already taken place. If any parliament in any country needed the legitimacy of the opposition, in this case no democratic system could function, therefore, everything is very simple. They will come or not, it is up to them. Legitimacy of the Parliament is on the face", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to him, the opposition today does not have the resources they had 4 years ago.

"Then they had the resources to force us to enter into negotiations, to sign the wrong agreement. It was an agreement that provided for the withdrawal of the country from the constitutional framework. The then agreement had three main goals, one was the return of the opposition's influence on the court - the first was reflected in the then April agreement, the second was ensuring the opposition's control over the CEC, specific mechanisms were put in place in this regard.

Parliament could not actually elect the chairman of the CEC, because a qualified majority was required, therefore, the opposition deputy automatically became the chairman of the CEC. In addition, due to the qualified majority, the Parliament could not elect other members of the CEC, because of this, the majority in the CEC passed into the hands of the opposition. You can imagine what would happen in such a case, that is, if the majority of the CEC and the position of the CEC chairman were in the hands of the opposition. The sabotage that they are trying to do in the Parliament would happen in the CEC and would be related to the elections. Elections could not be held at all if the opposition lost the elections. Even after that, the pressure regarding these topics continued," said the Prime Minister.

According to him, the first goal was to return the control of the "collective national movement" to the court, the second was to ensure control over the CEC, and the third was the extraordinary parliamentary elections.

"Then we had to agree to a 43 percent threshold, which was complete nonsense, complete absurdity. The question of holding extraordinary parliamentary elections was connected to the self-government elections, and we had to agree to that as well. These three issues implied the departure of the country from the constitutional framework. Back then there was stronger opposition due to the fact that the context was appropriate, today they have no resources at all, including the fact that, as is well known, you cannot step into the same river twice. They are now trying to enter the same river a second time, which is simply impossible and out of the question, so they have already fired the bullets they were supposed to use today. 4 years ago, they used up all the bullets they had in the Arsenal, therefore, today's sabotage has no effect on them," the Prime Minister said in the Public Broadcaster program, whose statement is being released by the press office.
